On
the final day of group play, several Javanon teams knew they
were playing their last match of the season, while others were
hoping for a good result and some help to continue on to the
semi-finals on Tuesday, with only the U18 Javanon 90 Boys holding
thier own destiny.
The U13 Girls started off the day with a solid victory over
Toro Booyah (Nebraska) 2-1. Needing help by way of aKCFC loss
to advance, it was not to be. The first year experience including
a victory over the advancing Toro Booyah side will be good to
draw on for future trips to regionals for the 95 Girls.
The 92 Boys put a convincing victory into the books to try to
make their claim at earning a semi-finalist berth with a 5-2
victory over PSA United. Needing a loss by KCFC it did not look
good as KCFC held a 3-1 advantage at the half. KCFC's opponent,
Vardar West, would not fold and battled back to a 4-3 victory
sending Tim Chastonay's side on to Tuesday. Is fate with the
92's? The last time Tim had a U16 team at Regionals they won
and went on to Nationals....
The
90 Boys, holding the cards to their fate, did not make things
easy for themselves. Down 2-0, the comeback started with a goal
well into the second half to close the gap. Needing only a tie
to advance they kept both teams on edge until the closing minute
of the match when the anticipated evening goal was scored to
send the U18 Boys on to the Semi's against Shattucks St. Mary's.
The 91 Boys recovered from a devasting loss on Sunday to tie
Pacesetter and take 2nd in what was arguably the "group
of death" in the U17 Boys bracket. The 95 Boys finished
their first exerience at Regionals on a positive note with a
solid performance and 3-1 victory over Bangu Tsunami (MN). The
victory put them in a 3 way tie for first in the group but lost
out due to goal differential.
